ياO غُرَّةًa bright blaze فيupon جَبهَةِthe brow of الدَهرِTime
يا غُرَّةً في جَبهَةِ الدَهرِ
إِلىuntil مَتىwhen تَنظُرُyou look فيinto أَمريmy case
إِلى مَتى تَنظُرُ في أَمري
O bright blaze upon the brow of Time,
O you with radiant forehead in the realm of time
How long will you consider my case?
How long will you look upon my affair?
أَطلِقrelease لِيَto me الرَسمَthe allowance الَّذيthat كُنتُI had قَدalready
أَطلِق لِيَ الرَسمَ الَّذي كُنتُ قَد
عَلَّقتُهُI entered it فيin ثَبَتِthe register of البِرِّbenevolence
عَلَّقتُهُ في ثَبَتِ البِرِّ
Release to me the allowance that I had already
Release to me that favor which I had
entered in the register of benevolence.
Suspended on the pillar of righteousness
وَوَصِّand enjoin جَدواكَyour bounty بِتَعجيلِهِto hasten it
وَوَصِّ جَدواكَ بِتَعجيلِهِ
لِناصِحٍfor one sincere فيin خِدمَةِthe service of الشُكرِgratitude
لِناصِحٍ في خِدمَةِ الشُكرِ
And bid your bounty hasten it
And urge your servant for its quick fulfillment
for one devoted to the service of gratitude.
To one who gives good counsel in service and gratitude
فَماfor ... not تَقاضَيتُكَI pressed you for payment إِلّاexcept وَقَدand already
فَما تَقاضَيتُكَ إِلّا وَقَد
لاfirst part of 'beset me' (لازمني) زَمَنيcompletes 'beset me' (لازمني) خَصمٌan adversary مِنَfrom الضُرِّhardship
لا زَمَني خَصمٌ مِنَ الضُرِّ
For I did not press you for payment until
For I have only asked of you when pressed
a foe born of hardship had beset me.
