News of the young man posing as a poet was told to me

by a brother of pure character and noble stock.

So I said to him: Indeed, swords are many,

but a blunt blade is not like a keen one.

So make light of him if he is an ass, for surely he

will stumble when he tries to catch a lean steed.

And let him say about our poetry whatever he wishes,

for rival wives' words do not diminish a beautiful woman.
