إِذاwhen كانَthere is مِنّيfrom me ذَلَلa lapse (apparently intended as زَلَل)
My delight is the young man's reproach
My joy is the youth's reproach
When a lapse comes from me;
If it comes from me being gentle
فَلَوfor if لَمnot أَكُنI were عِندَهُin his eyes
عَزيزاًdear إِذاًthen ماnot فَعَلhe did so
For if, in his eyes, I were not
For if I were not dear to him
Dear, he would not have done so.
He would not have done thus
أَشهىmore delectable مِنَthan الإِرتِشافِsipping وَالقُبَلِand kisses
وَمِنand than بُلوغِthe fulfillment of الرَجاءِhope وَالأَمَلِand wishes
More delectable than sipping and kisses,
More delicious than a sip and a kiss
And than the fulfillment of hopes and wishes,
And than attaining hope and wish
وَمِنand than عُقارٍwine يُديرُهاhe passes it around رَشَأٌa young gazelle
مُحتَمَلُeasily encircled الخَصرِthe waist مُعتَديexceedingly ample الكَفَلِthe rump
And than wine passed around by a young gazelle,
And than a potion stirred by a tipsy one
Slender of waist, extravagantly full of rump,
Bearing a slender waist, grabbing the shoulder
وُدٌّlove حَلاhas become sweet طَعمُهُits taste فَذائِقُهُso whoever tastes it
لاnot يَتَشَكّىhe complains of مَرارَةَthe bitterness of المَلَلِboredom
Is love whose taste is sweet; so whoever tastes it
Love whose taste is sweet when tasted
Does not complain of boredom's bitterness.
Its taster complains not of boredom's bitterness
