Many a youth's deeds reveal
How many a young man's deeds reveal
shining, fresh splendors.
Radiant, shining virtues

If a man harbors good intent toward him,
If a person intends good

his face turned steadfastly toward a qibla
Devotedly facing a direction
that, could it speak, would be grateful to him.
That if it spoke would thank him

If another man's soul recoils from piety,
If a person's soul recoils from piety
his own soul does not recoil from it.
His own soul will not recoil from him

He did not make waywardness his trade,
He did not make sin a trade
so his return was not a losing one.
So his capital was not lost

A true youth is none other than one who
A young man is none other than one
does not prefer this world to the Hereafter.
Who prefers the hereafter over worldly life
