بَكَتwept لَبَينيLubayna بُكاءَthe weeping of مُكتَئِبِone distraught
بَكَت لَبَيني بُكاءَ مُكتَئِبِ
صارَbecame بِهِthrough it وَجهُهاher face مِنَamong العَجَبِwonders
صارَ بِهِ وَجهُها مِنَ العَجَبِ
Lubayna wept with the weeping of one distraught;
My tender one wept a weeping of melancholy
through it her face became a thing of wonder,
Her face became astonished because of it
مِنbecause of إِثمِدٍantimony kohl لَمdid not يَزَلcease يُدَحرِجُهُroll it
مِن إِثمِدٍ لَم يَزَل يُدَحرِجُهُ
مِنfrom طَرفِهاher eye سِربُa flock دَمعِهاher tears السَرِبِflowing
مِن طَرفِها سِربُ دَمعِها السَرِبِ
because of antimony kohl that was ceaselessly rolled
From an eye whose tears kept on rolling down
from her eye by the flock of her flowing tears,
A swarm of her teardrops swift as the flow
كَأَنَّهُas though it فيin اِصفِرارِthe yellowing of وَجنَتِهاher cheek
كَأَنَّهُ في اِصفِرارِ وَجنَتِها
فُصوصُgemstones فيروزِجٍturquoise عَلىupon ذَهَبِgold
فُصوصُ فيروزِجٍ عَلى ذَهَبِ
as though, against her yellowing cheek, it were
As if on the yellowness of her cheeks
turquoise gemstones upon gold.
