إِذا أَحسَنتَ تَربِيَةً لِحَمدٍ

إِذا أَحسَنتَ تَربِيَةً لِحَمدٍ

وَخِفتَ عَلَيهِ مِن قِصَرِ البَقاءِ

وَخِفتَ عَلَيهِ مِن قِصَرِ البَقاءِ

If you have nurtured praise well,

If you raise a child well, hoping for praise,

And fear for it, lest it be short-lived,

And fear for him the brevity of life,

فَلا تَتَعَرَّضنَ لِحِفظَ مالٍ

فَلا تَتَعَرَّضنَ لِحِفظَ مالٍ

فَحَفِظَ المالَ تَضييعُ الثَناءِ

فَحَفِظَ المالَ تَضييعُ الثَناءِ

Then never seek to preserve wealth,

Then do not obsess over hoarding wealth,

For preserving wealth is squandering praise.

For hoarding wealth will forfeit praise.
