إِذاif الفَتىthe young man مَرَّةًonce كَسانيclothed me
مِنهُfrom him هَناءًhappiness إِلىto مَكانِa place
If the young man once clothes me
When a youth once passed by me
with happiness from him, to a place,
With a greeting to a place, I thanked him
I bestowed as a robe مِنّيfrom me عَلَيهِupon him شُكراًgratitude
حاشيتاهُits two borders رَقيقَتانِboth delicate
I bestow my gratitude upon him like a robe
My bracelets slipped from me to him.
whose two borders are delicate.
If he is harsh to me without a crime,
فَإِنbut if جَفانيhe shunned me لِغَيرِfor no جُرمِoffense
جَفوَتَهُI shunned him مِثلَlike ماthe way جَفانيhe shunned me
But if he shuns me for no offense,
I will be as harsh to him as he was.
I shun him just as he shunned me.
I will guard it as long as I guard
أَحفَظُهُI protect him ماas long as وَجَدتُI found حِفظاًprotection
مِنهُfrom him وَأَرميهِand I pelt him إِنif رَمانيhe pelted me
I protect him as long as I find protection
Anything of him and fling it if he flings at me.
from him, and I pelt him if he pelts me.
