وَسارَ عَلى ظَهرِ التَجَنّي إِلى الهَجرِ

If the beloved forsakes the path of union,

When my beloved turned away from the path of union

and rides on the back of unjust blame toward estrangement,

And walked on the back of estrangement to abandonment

تَتَبَّعتُ آثارَ التَغاضي وَلَم أَكُن

تَتَبَّعتُ آثارَ التَغاضي وَلَم أَكُن

لِأَعدِلَ عَن نَهجِ الوَفاءِ إِلى الغَدرِ

لِأَعدِلَ عَن نَهجِ الوَفاءِ إِلى الغَدرِ

I follow the footsteps of forbearance, and would never

I followed the traces of indifference, yet I could not

turn from the path of loyalty to betrayal.

Swerve from the way of loyalty to the way of betrayal

فَكَيفَ يَعيشُ الوُدُّ لي إِن تَرَكتُهُ

فَكَيفَ يَعيشُ الوُدُّ لي إِن تَرَكتُهُ

وَلَيسَ لَهُ مِنّي غِذاءٌ مِنَ الصَبرِ

وَلَيسَ لَهُ مِنّي غِذاءٌ مِنَ الصَبرِ

For how can affection live on for me if I abandon it,

How then can affection live if I abandon it

and it has no nourishment of patience from me?

When it has from me no nourishment of patience
