If Barakat visits me one day,

that is the most blessed of days for me.

A gazelle fawn—from his saliva comes my wine, whenever

I win him, and from his cheeks my roses.

He has a temple-lock like rejection after union,

upon a cheek like union after rejection.

He lords it over the boughs when he sways,

with supple curves and a beautiful figure.

If loving a youth brings ill fortune,

then my love for him brings only good fortune to me.
