إِذا الخِلُّ لَم يَغفِر إِساءَةَ خِلِّهِ

فَما ذاكَ إِلّا لِاِختِلالِ المَكارِمِ

فَما ذاكَ إِلّا لِاِختِلالِ المَكارِمِ

If a friend does not forgive his friend's offense,

If a friend does not forgive a friend's offense,

then that is due only to a failure of noble virtues.

It is only due to the absence of noble traits.

فَكُن آيِساً مِن طَعمِ شُكرٍ تَذوقُهُ

فَكُن آيِساً مِن طَعمِ شُكرٍ تَذوقُهُ

إِذا لَم يَكُن في الذَوقِ حُلوَ المَطاعِمِ

إِذا لَم يَكُن في الذَوقِ حُلوَ المَطاعِمِ

So despair of the taste of gratitude you might savor,

So despair of tasting the flavor of gratitude

if its flavors are not sweet to the palate.

If there is no sweetness in the taste.
