كَيفَhow السَبيلُthe way إِلىto الَّتيthe one who هِيَshe جَنَّةٌa paradise
مِنfrom دونِهاbefore her نارٌa fire مِنَof الرُقَباءِthe watchers
How can one reach her who is a paradise,
How to reach she who is a paradise
with a fire of watchers barring the way?
Without her, fire from tyrants
هَيفاءُslender-waisted طَرَّتهاher forelock وَنورُand the light جَبينِهاof her brow
كَصِقالِlike the polished gleam of بَدرٍa full moon فيin صَدىthe rust of ظَلماءِa dark night
She is slender-waisted; her forelock and her brow’s light
Her graceful figure and shining brow
are like a full moon’s polished gleam amid the rust of a dark night.
Like the full moon in the dark of night
وَكَأَنَّand as though سالِفَهاher side-lock طِرازٌembroidery أَسوَدٌblack
And her side-lock is like black embroidery
As if her long dark tresses
that has appeared upon red brocade.
Gleam on a red brocade
