تَبَسَّمَ عَن مِثلِ صافي الجُمانِ

تَبَسَّمَ عَن مِثلِ صافي الجُمانِ

وَأَسفَرَ عَن مِثلِ ما في الجِنانِ

وَأَسفَرَ عَن مِثلِ ما في الجِنانِ

He smiled, revealing the like of pure pearls,

He smiled with the radiance of a crystal cup,

And unveiled the like of what is in Paradise.

And dawned with the light of the gardens of Paradise.

فَقُلتُ أَتَنشَطُ يا سَيِّدي

فَقُلتُ أَتَنشَطُ يا سَيِّدي

إِلى حَيثُ تُجلى بَناتُ الدِنانِ

إِلى حَيثُ تُجلى بَناتُ الدِنانِ

Then I said, 'Are you inclined, my lord,

I said: "Will you go, my lord,

To go where the daughters of wine jars are unveiled,

To where the beauties of the world are revealed?"

إِلى بَيتِ بَحرٍ لَهُ مَجلِسٌ

إِلى بَيتِ بَحرٍ لَهُ مَجلِسٌ

عَلى الجيدِ مِنهُ عُقودُ الأَواني

عَلى الجيدِ مِنهُ عُقودُ الأَواني

To Bahr's house, which has a gathering hall,

To a sea-house with a sitting room

Upon whose neck are necklaces of vessels?'

Whose necklaces are vessels of wine.

فَقالَ وَلَم ذا وَقَد مَكَّنَت

فَقالَ وَلَم ذا وَقَد مَكَّنَت

صِفاتُكَ أَيدِيَها مِن عِناني

صِفاتُكَ أَيدِيَها مِن عِناني

Then he said, 'Why this, when already

He said: "Why should I, when

Your descriptions have given their hands command of my reins?

Your qualities have given me freedom?"

أَجيءُ لِتَنظُرَ مِنّي إِلى

أَجيءُ لِتَنظُرَ مِنّي إِلى

مَليحِ المَعاني

مَليحِ المَعاني

I will come, so you may behold in me

"Shall I come for you to look upon

One with lovely qualities.'

The beautiful meanings?"

فَقُلتُ تَفَضَّل بِتَعجيلِ ذا

فَقُلتُ تَفَضَّل بِتَعجيلِ ذا

فَهَذا هُوَ الزُبدُ بِالنَرسِيانِ

فَهَذا هُوَ الزُبدُ بِالنَرسِيانِ

Then I said, 'Be so kind as to hasten this—

I said: "Please hasten this gift,

For this is butter with Narsiyan dates.'

For this is the cream with the bubbling wine."
