    He saw my passion for him, then grew proud and turned away—

    a beloved of mine whose favor I cherish deeply.

    When movements set his side swaying,

    the branch finds him more beautiful in stature than itself.

    يُسَلِّمُني بِهِ لِهَواهُ عَبدا

    A guileless youth—a greeting from him beguiled me;

    through it he hands me over as a slave to his love.

    Whenever his garden of praise is watered

    with a downpour of glances, he brings forth roses within it.
