لِلَهِto God (an exclamation of admiration) أَيامُdays لِذّاتٍpleasures قَضَيتُI fulfilled بِهاin them
لِلَهِ أَيامُ لِذّاتٍ قَضَيتُ بِها
حَقَّthe due الشَبابِof youth وَظِلُّand the shade العَيشِof life مَمدودُoutstretched
حَقَّ الشَبابِ وَظِلُّ العَيشِ مَمدودُ
God be praised for days of pleasure in which I paid
Days I spent in pleasure when youth was bright,
Youth its due, while life's shade lay outstretched.
And life an age-long summer of delight;
ماnot زِلتُI ceased أَلبَسُهاI wear them وَالدَهرُand time يَنشُرُهاunfolds them
ما زِلتُ أَلبَسُها وَالدَهرُ يَنشُرُها
فَاِسوَدَّthen turned black أَبيضُهاtheir white وَاِبيَضَّتِand turned white السودُthe black ones
فَاِسوَدَّ أَبيضُها وَاِبيَضَّتِ السودُ
I never ceased to wear them, while time unfolded them;
Garments of joy that fade not nor grow old
Then their white turned black, and the black ones turned white.
I clad me in; but lo, they are unrolled.
