زارَ مِن بَعدِ ما هَجَر

وَوَفى بَعدَ ما غَدَر

He came visiting after he had deserted

And kept faith after he betrayed

خوطُ بانٍ إِذا خَطا

بَدرُ تَمٍّ إِذا بَدَر

The crescent moon when it dawns

The full moon when it rises

أَنا في جاهِ خَدِّهِ

وَالَّذي فيهِ قَد ظَهَر

I revel in his cheek's glory

Apparent to him who in it lies

مِن عِذارٍ إِذا رَأى

حُسنَهُ عاذِلٌ عَذَر

With the excuse, when seeing

His beauty, of one who excuses
