ماwhat فيin أَبىAbu إِسحاقَIshaq يَكفيهِsuffices him
فَماso what عَسىmight يَنعَتُdescribe مُطريهِhis panegyrist
What is in Abu Ishaq is enough for him;
so what could his panegyrist describe?
أَلَيسَis it not مِنpart of حِكمَتِهِhis wisdom أَنَّهُthat he
يُغَمِّزُhe massages المَيتَthe dead man فَيُحيهِand so revives him
Is it not part of his wisdom that he
massages the dead man and brings him to life?
ماnot بَرَحَleft المِروَدَthe kohl stick فيin عَينِهِhis eye

The kohl stick has never left his eye,
nor the tooth-stick his mouth.
نَظافَةٌcleanliness فيin بَعضِهاsome of it مَقنَعٌsufficiency
فَلَيتَso, if only أَنَّthat الكُلَّall of it يُرضيهِpleases him
Cleanliness—some of it is enough;
if only all of it pleased him!
