مُهَفهَفُslender الأَعضاءِthe limbs فَتّانُbewitching
Rise, let us drink tawny wine at dawn, borne swiftly by
A slender-limbed charmer,
فيin بَيعَةِthe church الرَوضِthe garden الَّتيwhich قَدalready بَدَتappeared
فيهاin it مِنَof المَنثورِstock flowers صُلبانُcrosses
In the garden’s church, where there have appeared
Crosses of stock flowers.
فَماfor there is no بِشَمعِin the candles الزَهرِthe flowers وَهجٌheat بِهاin it
وَلاnor بِسُرجِin the lamps التَمرِthe dates دُخّانُsmoke
For the flower-candles there give off no heat,
Nor do the date-fruit lamps give off smoke.
