كَأَنَّهُ سَبَجٌ مِن تَحتِهِ ذَهَبُ
Drink beside charcoal with a flame beneath it,
Drink from the embers, beneath which a flame lies,
As though it were jet with gold beneath it.
As if it were molten gold underneath.

The boy brought it while the bitter cold shook us,
The boy brought it while the cold pinched us.
At dawn, and we nearly caught fire from it—
At dawn, we were almost set alight by it.

Before its musk becomes saffron perfume, and one sees
Beforehand, his smell was gentle, his cheek was seen
Its anemone as jasmine when it veils itself.
Rosy and plump when he was veiled.
