لا تَقرِضَن يا فارُ لي ذِمَّةً

لا تَقرِضَن يا فارُ لي ذِمَّةً

فَلَستُ مِن جَهلِكَ في شِكِّ

فَلَستُ مِن جَهلِكَ في شِكِّ

Do not gnaw through your pledge to me, O mouse,

O mouse, do not lend me an obligation,

for I have no doubt of your ignorance.

For I am not ignorant of your folly.

وَاِحذَر عَلى نَفسِكَ مِن قِطَّةٍ

وَاِحذَر عَلى نَفسِكَ مِن قِطَّةٍ

أَظافيرٌ مِنَ الشِركِ

أَظافيرٌ مِنَ الشِركِ

And beware, for your own sake, of a she-cat,

Beware for yourself of a cat,

with claws of ensnarement.

Whose claws are of polytheism.

كَم نَفرَةٍ كَسَرتَ فيها الوَفا

كَم نَفرَةٍ كَسَرتَ فيها الوَفا

بِالغَدرِ وَالإيمانَ بِالإِفكِ

بِالغَدرِ وَالإيمانَ بِالإِفكِ

How many a flight in which you broke fidelity

How often you have broken faith,

through treachery, and faith through falsehood!

With treachery and belief in lies.

لا تَستَطِب جُبنَ اِحتِمالي فَكَم

لا تَستَطِب جُبنَ اِحتِمالي فَكَم

أَوقَعَ في مَصيَدَةِ الصَكِّ

أَوقَعَ في مَصيَدَةِ الصَكِّ

Do not relish the “cheese” of my forbearance, for how often

Do not take as cowardice my patience,

has it landed one in a snapping trap!

For how often it has caught in the trap of ridicule.
