He shone with the thickets of his hair,

And with the moist pearls of his mouth—

A young gazelle whose affection would do me justice

Whenever I complained of his desertion.

But when he saw me abased before him,

    Cringing before his command,

He made me drink passion from the cup of loathing.

Who, then, can restore me to sobriety from its intoxication?
