لَئِن سَقاني أَخٌ لَهُ هِمَمٌ

لَئِن سَقاني أَخٌ لَهُ هِمَمٌ

راحاً مِنَ الرِفدِ كَرمُها الكَرَمُ

راحاً مِنَ الرِفدِ كَرمُها الكَرَمُ

If a brother of lofty aspirations has given me to drink

a wine of bounty whose vine is generosity,

لَقَد سَقاهُ مِنَ الثَناءِ فَمي

لَقَد سَقاهُ مِنَ الثَناءِ فَمي

ما لَم يَدُر مِثلُهُ عَلَيهِ فَمُ

ما لَم يَدُر مِثلُهُ عَلَيهِ فَمُ

my mouth has indeed given him praise to drink,

such as no mouth has ever poured for him.

فَلا تَقَضَّت ما بَينَنا مِدَحٌ

فَلا تَقَضَّت ما بَينَنا مِدَحٌ

إِلَيهِ وَمِنهُ لي نِقَمُ

إِلَيهِ وَمِنهُ لي نِقَمُ

So may there never cease between us praises

to him, and punishments from him to me.
