He appeared, and we took him for a radiant full moon;
He appeared, so we took him for a radiant full moon.

تَراناyou see us إِذاwhen ضَمَّناbrings us together مَجلِسٌa gathering
نُميتُwe kill الحَديثَthe conversation وَنُحييand we revive النَعيراthe clamor
You see us, whenever a gathering brings us together,
You see us, when a gathering brings us together:
put conversation to death and bring clamor to life.
We kill conversation and revive the clamor.
وَلاand no عُذرَexcuse لِلأُسدِfor the lions فيin غابِهاtheir thickets

And the lions in their thickets have no excuse
And the lions in their thickets have no excuse,
when the gazelle delights, not to roar.
When the gazelle lives at ease, for not roaring.
