ياO مَنyou who يَحِنُّfeels compassion عَلَيَّfor me فيماin what يَدَّعيhe claims
وَيَلومُنيand blames me فيمَنover the one whom أَحِنُّI yearn عَلَيهِfor him
O you who claim to feel compassion for me,
O you who rebuke me for the one I yearn for,
Yet blame me for the one I yearn for,
And blame me for the one I yearn over,
حَتّامَhow long تَرميyou cast النَصحَcounsel بَينَbetween يَديthe two hands of فَتىًa youth
هُوَhe لِلهَوىto passion كَالعَبدِlike a slave بَينَbetween يَدَيهِits two hands
How long will you cast counsel before a youth
You cast advice before a youth,
Who stands before passion like a slave?
Who is to passion as a slave before his master.
أَقسَمتُI have sworn لَوجاءَif it came السُلُوُّforgetfulness of love بِنَفسِهِitself
يَسعىit hastens إِلَيَّto me لَماwould not نَظَرتُI looked إِلَيهِat it
I have sworn: were forgetfulness itself to come
I swear, if distraction itself sought me,
Hastening to me, I would not look at it.
I would not look upon it.
