ياO أَخيmy brother مِنthrough رِضاعِsuckling at ثَديِthe breast of الإِخاءِbrotherhood
يا أَخي مِن رِضاعِ ثَديِ الإِخاءِ
لاdo not تُكَدِّرُcloud بِالغَدرِwith betrayal صَفوَthe purity of الوَفاءِfidelity
لا تُكَدِّرُ بِالغَدرِ صَفوَ الوَفاءِ
O my brother, nursed at the breast of brotherhood,
O brother of the milk-brotherhood of brotherliness
do not cloud the purity of fidelity with betrayal.
Do not make bitter with betrayal the honey-sweetness of loyalty
آنَit is time أَنthat يُثمِرَbear as fruit العِتابُreproach اِغتِفاراforgiveness
آنَ أَن يُثمِرَ العِتابُ اِغتِفارا
فيin رِياضِthe gardens of الأَقصاءِthe far-off لِلإِقصاءِfor banishment
في رِياضِ الأَقصاءِ لِلإِقصاءِ
It is time for reproach to bear the fruit of pardon
Now is the time for blame to yield forgiveness
for banishment, in the gardens of the far-off.
In the far gardens for those gone far
كَمhow long إِلىuntil كَمhow long عَلَيَّupon me لِلهَجرِto estrangement دَينٌa debt
كَم إِلى كَم عَلَيَّ لِلهَجرِ دَينٌ
تَقتَضيهِexacts it شَماتُةُthe gloating of الأَعداءِthe enemies
تَقتَضيهِ شَماتُةُ الأَعداءِ
How long, how much longer, must I owe estrangement a debt
How much do I owe you for estrangement
that the gloating of enemies exacts?
Required by the gloating of enemies
بِالَّذيby that which بَينَناis between us مِنَof الوُدِّaffection إِلّاwill you not
بِالَّذي بَينَنا مِنَ الوُدِّ إِلّا
ماan emphatic particle تَرَحَّلَتyou would dismount عَنfrom جَموحِthe unruly steed of الجَفاءِestrangement
ما تَرَحَّلَت عَن جَموحِ الجَفاءِ
By the affection between us, will you not
By what love lies between us now
dismount from estrangement's unruly steed?
