ياO نَجمُNajm قَدalready لاحَتhave shone forth نُجومُstars القَطرِof the rain
مُنتَشِراتٍscattered فيwithin نُفوسِthe souls الزَهرِof the flowers
O Najm, the rain's stars have shone forth,
scattered within the souls of flowers.
فَاِلْهُso make merry بِناwith us بَينَamong بُدورِthe full moons الغَدرِof the pools
مَعwith جاهِلِimpetuous الرِدفِthe hips حَليمِgentle الخَصرِthe waist
So make merry with us among the pools' full moons,
with one impetuous of hip and gentle of waist,
يَعقِدُknots بِالماءِwith water خُمارَthe veil الخَمرِof the wine
فَيَومُناso our day يَومٌa day جَميلُfair الأَمرِin circumstance
who knots the wine's veil with water.
So ours is a day of happy circumstance;
قَدindeed جاءَhas come فيin فِعالِهِits deeds بِالدُرِّwith pearls
فَلاso do not تَعامَلهُtreat it بِغَيرِwith anything other than السُكرِdrunkenness
it has brought pearls through its deeds—
so repay it with nothing but drunkenness.
