كُن يا نَديمي طيبَ النَفسِ

كُن يا نَديمي طيبَ النَفسِ

فَيَومُنا أَحسَنُ مِن أَمسِ

فَيَومُنا أَحسَنُ مِن أَمسِ

Be of good cheer, my drinking companion,

My soul's companion, do be calm of heart

for our day is better than yesterday.

For this day is better than days foregone

وَاِنعَم بِصَفراءَ نَهارِيَّةٍ

وَاِنعَم بِصَفراءَ نَهارِيَّةٍ

عَلى بَهارٍ ناعِمِ اللَمسِ

عَلى بَهارٍ ناعِمِ اللَمسِ

And delight in golden wine by day,

And savor a sunny forenoon

beside yellow oxeye blossoms, soft to the touch,

Over a gentle springtime’s dawn

كَأَنَّما صُفرُ دَنانيرِهِ

كَأَنَّما صُفرُ دَنانيرِهِ

مَطبوعَةٌ مِن ذَهَبِ الشَمسِ

مَطبوعَةٌ مِن ذَهَبِ الشَمسِ

as though their yellow dinars

As though its golden hue

were minted from the gold of the sun.

Were minted from the sun's own gold
