نَسيمٌ كَالرِضا مِن حَيثُ وافى

نَسيمٌ كَالرِضا مِن حَيثُ وافى

تَلَقّاهُ نَدى كَالإِعتِذارِ

تَلَقّاهُ نَدى كَالإِعتِذارِ

A breeze like contentment, wherever it came,

A breeze like contentment from where it came

was greeted by dew like an apology.

Met by dew like apologies

وَأَطيارٌ فَواخِتُها تُغَنّي

وَأَطيارٌ فَواخِتُها تُغَنّي

عَلى زَمرِ القَماري في القِماري

عَلى زَمرِ القَماري في القِماري

And birds—their ringdoves sing

And birds singing gaily overhead

to the turtledoves’ piping among the aloeswood trees.

To the tunes of lutists in the orange grove

فَقُم هاتِ الَّتي تُبدي حَبابا

فَقُم هاتِ الَّتي تُبدي حَبابا

فَتَحسَبُهُ لُجَينا في نُضارِ

فَتَحسَبُهُ لُجَينا في نُضارِ

So rise; bring the wine that shows its froth,

So rise and bring that which shows bubbles of love

so you would take it for silver in gold.

Mistaking it for bright red wine

فَعَزمي أَن أَموتَ اليَومَ سَكراً

فَعَزمي أَن أَموتَ اليَومَ سَكراً

إِذا بَلَغَ الهَزارُ إِلى الهَزارِ

إِذا بَلَغَ الهَزارُ إِلى الهَزارِ

For I am resolved to die drunk today,

My intent is to die drunk today

when the nightingale reaches a thousand notes.
