يا ذا الَّذي يَطلُبُ في طِرسي
آثارَtraces ماwhat أَنشَدتُI recited فيin أَمسيmy yesterday
آثارَ ما أَنشَدتُ في أَمسي
O you who seek upon my page
O you who seek in my parchment
the traces of what I recited yesterday:
traces of what I recited yesterday,
إِنif أَناI لَمdid not أُثبِتُهُI record it فيهِin it فَقَدthen indeed
إِن أَنا لَم أُثبِتُهُ فيهِ فَقَد
أَثبَتَهُhas recorded it حِفظِيَmy memory فيin نَفسيmy soul
أَثبَتَهُ حِفظِيَ في نَفسي
if I have not set it down there, then
if I have not recorded it there, then indeed
my memory has preserved it within me.
my memory has recorded it within my soul.
