أَدِرturn كَأسَthe cup هَجرِكَyour estrangement عَنهُaway from him فَقَدfor indeed
سَقاهُgave him drink بِهاfrom it السُخطُanger حَتّىuntil سَكِرhe became drunk
Turn the cup of your estrangement away from him, for
Turn away your cup of estrangement from him, for
anger made him drink from it until he grew drunk.
Anger has already made him drink from it until drunk,
وَلاand do not تَترُكِleave العَتبَreproach خَصماًan adversary لَهُto him
فَقَدfor indeed رَقَّhe softened فيin يَدِهِits hand وَاِنكَسَرand he was broken
And do not leave reproach as his adversary,
And do not leave reproach to be his adversary,
for he has softened in its grip and been broken.
For it has gone soft in his hand and broken,
فَماfor … not هُوَhe أَوَّلُthe first عَبدٍslave جَنىcommitted a wrong
وَلاnor أَنتَyou أَوَّلُthe first مَولىًmaster غَفَرforgave
For he is not the first slave to sin,
He is not the first slave to reap
nor are you the first master to forgive.
Nor you the first lord to pardon.
