وَراحٍand wine تَدافَعَward off أَنفاسُهاits breaths
وَراحٍ تَدافَعَ أَنفاسُها
غَريمَthe creditor الغَرامِof passion عَنِfrom الأَنفُسِthe souls
غَريمَ الغَرامِ عَنِ الأَنفُسِ
And wine whose breaths ward off
Winds rush, breathing heavily,
The creditor of passion from souls.
To defend those enamored from harm,
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle الحَبابُthe bubbles عَلاهاrose upon it بَدَتit appeared
إِذا ما الحَبابُ عَلاها بَدَت
كَوَردٍlike a rose تَبَسَّمَsmiled عَنrevealing نَرجِسِa narcissus
كَوَردٍ تَبَسَّمَ عَن نَرجِسِ
When bubbles rise upon it, it appears
When dewdrops coat the rose's petals,
Like a rose smiling to reveal a narcissus.
A smile reveals from within the narcissus.
