وَقائِلٍand one who asked ماwhat المُلكُkingship ياO مَنone who لَهُhe has
وَقائِلٍ ما المُلكُ يا مَن لَهُ
أَجوِبَةٌanswers يَشفىis relieved بِهاthrough them كَربيmy anguish
أَجوِبَةٌ يَشفى بِها كَربي
And someone asked, “What is kingship, O you who have
A questioner asked, “What is kingship, O you
answers through which my anguish is relieved?”
Who has answers that soothe my troubles?”
فَقُلتُso I said إِنif كانَit is عَلىaccording to مَذهَبيmy view
فَقُلتُ إِن كانَ عَلى مَذهَبي
فَالمُلكُthen kingship عِنديto me راحَةُpeace القَلبِthe heart
فَالمُلكُ عِندي راحَةُ القَلبِ
So I said, “If it accords with my view,
I said, “If it accords with my belief,
then kingship, to me, is peace of heart.”
Then kingship to me is tranquility of heart.”
