And slender-waisted ones clad in patterned tunics,
With ingrained stars its saddles come alive,
their waists adorned with belts.
Belts at its waists like banded stripes survive.

When a company of them comes before you,
Whenever a group draws near your abode,
you stroll through gardens of their attire.
In gardens freed of garb they love to rove.

Graceful ones—when you cast your gaze toward them,
Of slender built, send but a glance their way,
it is bewildered by the neck of every racer among them.
And every racer shall in wonder stray.

And gray ones like gray hair, their backs white,
With manes like grey amidst pure whiteness shown,
black ones surround them, like black hair at the partings.
Dark sorrel bodies their fine coats enthrone.

Offspring of noble stock, swifter of stride
Sprung of a noble line, fleet of foot and fast,
across the parchment than tears on a lover's cheek.
Swifter than tears down a lover's cheek they passed.

Its discipline leaves it needing no trainer,
Well-mannered, needing no one to give chase,
and its intelligence leaves it needing no driver.
Wise, without prodding, winning every race.

إِذا هِيَ خَبَّت في فِجاجِ المَهارِقِ
Among those that never stumble from running so fast,
They tire not, bolting, galloping apace,
when they trot through the passes of parchments.
When routes curve devious, still the same headlong race.

أَشَدُّ اِحمِراراً مِن خُدودِ العَواتِقِ
And among them, when you face them, are ones whose cheeks
Meeting them, cheeks redder than any belle,
are redder than the cheeks of maidens.
An aged darling's blooming face as well.

When the inkstand opens to reveal them, you see them
Open their trot, it's like a budburst streaming,
like a brazier of fire, or a meadow of anemones.
Or sparks erupting, raging and gleaming.
