كَبَدرٍ فَوقَ غُصنٍ في كَئيبِ
And one whose ways are adored, endowed with coy charm,
The beloved of graceful features, so alluring,
Like a full moon above a bough in a gloomy place.
Like a full moon above a bough in darkness,
كَأَنَّas though عَذارَهُhis cheek-down سَبَجٌjet رَطيبٌmoist
كَأَنَّ عَذارَهُ سَبَجٌ رَطيبٌ

عَلى يا قوتِ وَجنَتِهِ الرَطيبِ
As though his cheek-down were moist jet
As if his cheek were aromatic sabraj,
Upon the moist ruby of his cheek.
Oh the vitality and his sweet garden!
كَأَنَّas though لِحاظَsidelong glances مُقلَتِهِof his eye سِهامٌarrows

مَقاصِدَهُنَّ حَبّاتُ القُلوبِ
As though the sidelong glances of his eye were arrows,
As if the glances of his eyes were arrows,
Their targets are the cores of hearts.
Their purpose the hearts' kernels.
