وَشادِنٍand a young gazelle طافَmade the rounds بِمَشمولَةٍwith chilled wine
وَشادِنٍ طافَ بِمَشمولَةٍ
لَوif ذاقَهاtasted it سَكرانُone drunk هَمٍّwith grief صَحاhe sobered
لَو ذاقَها سَكرانُ هَمٍّ صَحا
And a young gazelle made the rounds with chilled wine;
A full moon rose carrying the sun of daybreak
had one drunk with grief tasted it, he would have sobered.
As I left him with the cup in his hand
فَخِلتُهُso I imagined him وَالكَأسُand the cup فيin كَفِّهِhis palm
فَخِلتُهُ وَالكَأسُ في كَفِّهِ
بَدرَthe full moon الدُجىof night's darkness تَحمِلُbearing شَمسَthe sun الضُحىof midmorning
بَدرَ الدُجى تَحمِلُ شَمسَ الضُحى
So I imagined him, with the cup in his palm,
Had he who is drunk with worries tasted it
as the full moon of night bearing the midmorning sun.
He would have circled an orchard
