وَقائِلَةٍand a woman saying تَبكيyou weep وَماand not بَعدُyet أَزمَعواthey resolved to depart
وَقائِلَةٍ تَبكي وَما بَعدُ أَزمَعوا
عَلامَwhy? وَفيand in الدَمعِthe tears الَّذيthat فاضَoverflowed مَقنَعُa sufficient answer
عَلامَ وَفي الدَمعِ الَّذي فاضَ مَقنَعُ
And a woman said, “You weep, though they have not yet resolved to depart—
And a woman cries though they did not intend
Why?”—and the tears that overflowed were answer enough.
To shed tears after all; so why shed tears now in vain?
فَقُلتُso I said لِبَينٍfor a parting قَدalready أَقامَbrought about قِيامَتيmy Judgment Day
فَقُلتُ لِبَينٍ قَد أَقامَ قِيامَتي
وَماand not كانَhas happened لَكِنّيbut I لَهُfor it أَتَوَقَّعُI anticipate
وَما كانَ لَكِنّي لَهُ أَتَوَقَّعُ
So I said, “For a parting that has already brought on my Judgment Day;
I said to one who had brought about my death,
It has not happened, but I anticipate it.”
"I did not expect this from you."
