وَمُغَنٍّand a singer لَهُhe has لِسانٌa tongue عَثورُstumbling
وَمُغَنٍّ لَهُ لِسانٌ عَثورُ
كُلَّevery شِعرٍverse يَأتيhe brings بِهِwith it مَكسورُbroken
كُلَّ شِعرٍ يَأتي بِهِ مَكسورُ
And a singer has a stumbling tongue;
A singer with a stammering tongue
every verse he delivers is broken.
Every poem he recites comes out fractured
إِنif تَغَنّىhe sings خَرَقتُI tear ثَوبِيَmy garment غَيظاin rage
إِن تَغَنّى خَرَقتُ ثَوبِيَ غَيظا
فَتَغَنّىso may it sing فيinside ثَوبِهِhis garment الزَنبورُthe hornet
فَتَغَنّى في ثَوبِهِ الزَنبورُ
If he sings, I tear my garment in rage;
If he sings, I'll tear my clothes in anger
so may the hornet sing inside his garment!
So he sings in the clothes of a wasp
