وَخِلٍّand a friend إِذاwhen جِئتُI came مُستَسقِياًseeking water
وَجَدتُI found سَحاباًa cloud نَداهُits dew النَدىgenerosity
And a friend—when I come seeking water,
When I come seeking rain as a supplicant,
I find a cloud whose dew is generosity.
I find a cloud whose sides are moistened by dew.
يُجَرّيhe sends racing وَرائِيَafter me إِنجازَهُhis fulfillment of promises
إِذاwhenever ماemphatic particle رَكِبتُI rode لَهُof his مَوعِداa promise
He sends his fulfillment racing after me
It makes the rain follow behind me
whenever I ride upon a promise of his.
Whenever I set out at its appointed time.
حَلاwas sweet طَعمُهُhis taste لِيَto me إِذwhen ذُقتُهُI tasted him
فَلَمso why لاnot أُصَيِّرُهُI make him مَورِداa watering place
His taste was sweet to me when I tasted him;
Sweet is its taste when I drink it.
so why should I not make him a watering place?
Why then should I not make it a trysting-place?
