ماnot القاشُAl-Qash إِلّاexcept فَلَكٌa celestial sphere
ما القاشُ إِلّا فَلَكٌ
غُدرانُهُits pools غُيومُهُits clouds
غُدرانُهُ غُيومُهُ
Al-Qash is nothing but a celestial sphere:
its pools are its clouds,
بَهارُهُits oxeye flowers شُموسُهُits suns
بَهارُهُ شُموسُهُ
نَرجِسُهُits narcissi نُجومُهُits stars
نَرجِسُهُ نُجومُهُ
its oxeye flowers are its suns,
its narcissi are its stars.
فَهاتِso bring ماwhat تُكرِمُناhonors us
فَهاتِ ما تُكرِمُنا
مِنهاof it بِهِwith it كَرومُهُits vines
مِنها بِهِ كَرومُهُ
So bring what we are graciously given
of wine by its vines;
فَماءُfor the water of وَرديmy roses قَطرُهُits rain
فَماءُ وَردي قَطرُهُ
وَعَنبَريand my ambergris نَسيمُهُits breeze
وَعَنبَري نَسيمُهُ
for its rain is my rosewater,
and its breeze is my ambergris.
