حِجابِيَmy curtain مَرفوعٌraised لِطارٍfor a newcomer وَنازِلِand a guest
وَمالِيَand my wealth مَبذولٌfreely offered لِراجٍto one who hopes وَآمِلِand one who expects
My curtain is raised for newcomer and guest,
My veil is raised for one who soars and one who kneels
And my wealth is freely offered to the hopeful and expectant.
My wealth is spent on beggar and on hopeful man
وَإِنand if كانَis حُلواًsweet فيin المَذاقِtaste تَكَرُّميmy generosity
فَماthen ... not طَعمُهُits taste إِلّاexcept كَطَعمِlike the taste of شَمائِليmy character traits
And if my generosity is sweet to the taste,
And if my generosity seems sweet to taste
Then its flavor is only like that of my character.
Its flavor is no more than that of my ideals

When a young man's hope comes to me, though he is crooked-wristed,
When faulty judgment comes to me from callow youth
And he extends a hand, receiving my bounty does not weary it.
Whose outstretched hands my favors never fill
