يا مَن خَلَعتُ عَلى هَواهُ طاعَتي

يا مَن خَلَعتُ عَلى هَواهُ طاعَتي

فَغَدا يُجَرِّرُها بِكُلِّ مَكانِ

O you whose desire I robed in my obedience,

O You whom I have given my obedience

and who then went trailing it everywhere:

Yet he now drags it through every place

هاتيكَ لِلمِسكينِ أَوَّلُ زَلَّةٍ

هاتيكَ لِلمِسكينِ أَوَّلُ زَلَّةٍ

فُتَوَخَّ فيهِ مَثوبَةَ الغُفرانِ

فُتَوَخَّ فيهِ مَثوبَةَ الغُفرانِ

that is the poor wretch's first misstep;

Grant this poor soul pardon for his first mistake

so seek, in his case, the reward of forgiveness.

And prepare for him the reward of forgiveness

إِن لَم يُخَلِّصني الوِصالُ بِجاهِهِ

إِن لَم يُخَلِّصني الوِصالُ بِجاهِهِ

سَأَموتُ تَحتَ عُقوبَةِ الهِجرانِ

سَأَموتُ تَحتَ عُقوبَةِ الهِجرانِ

If union does not rescue me through its influence,

If union with you does not save me through your grace
