مِنَ الحُسنِ ما كانَت لِتَطمَعَ في مِلكي
And a slender-waisted beauty—were it not for what her face possesses
And a slender-waisted woman—were it not for what her face possessed
of loveliness, she would never have aspired to possess me.
Of beauty, she would not aspire to possess me.

She draws her chemise’s neckline away from camphor-white skin,
She unfastens her shirt’s neckline, baring camphor,
and fastens the edges of her mantle over musk-black hair.
And ties the ends of her cloak over musk.
إِذاwhen سَفَرَتshe unveils أَبصَرتَyou see خَدّاًa cheek وَسالِفاًand the side of a neck

كَصُبحِ يَقينٍ تَحتَ لَيلٍ مِنَ الشَكِّ
When she unveils, you behold a cheek and the side of a neck,
When she unveils, you see her cheek and the side of her neck,
like the dawn of certainty beneath a night of doubt.
Like a dawn of certainty beneath a night of doubt.
