A fire brought to you by a gazelle,
A fire arrived with which warriors kindled,
slender and fresh in youth,
I have a wet log, youth’s greenness.
مَحجوبَةٌveiled بِرَمادِهاby its ashes
مَحجوبَةٌ بِرَمادِها
بَعدَafter اضَطِرامٍblazing وَالتِهابِand burning
بَعدَ اضَطِرامٍ وَالتِهابِ
veiled by its ashes
Veiled in its ashes
after blazing and burning,
After blazing up and burning,
مِثلَlike العَقارِwine إِذاwhen بَدَتit appeared
مِثلَ العَقارِ إِذا بَدَت
فيin كَأسِهاits cup تَحتَbeneath الحَبابِthe bubbles
في كَأسِها تَحتَ الحَبابِ
like wine when it appears
Like medicine when it appears
in its cup beneath the bubbles.
In its glass under bubbles.
