قَد أَفلَحَ العَبدُ الَّذي مالَهُ
بِاللَهوِwith amusement عَنaway from سَيِّدِهِhis master شُغلُpreoccupation

Indeed, the servant prospers who has no
The servant has succeeded who turned away
Preoccupation with amusement to distract him from his master.
From idle sport out of love for his Lord,
عَزَّgained honor بِأَنby the fact that أَرضاهُhe pleased him عَنهُwith him وَلَوand if
عَزَّ بِأَن أَرضاهُ عَنهُ وَلَو
أَسخَطَهُhe displeased him حَلَّbefell بِهِupon him الذُلُّhumiliation
أَسخَطَهُ حَلَّ بِهِ الذُلُّ
He gains honor by winning his favor; but if
Though if he displeased Him that would grieve him sore,
He displeases him, humiliation befalls him.
To win His pleasure has raised him high.
