وَإِنّيand indeed I فيamong الجِيادِthe noble steeds لمَنindeed one whom تَراهُyou see him
لطَلقُindeed cheerful الوَجهِof face غُرَّتَهُhis forehead blaze نَداهُhis bounty
And among the noble steeds, I am indeed one you see,
And I in the running horses, for one you see,
Cheerful of face, his bounty his forehead blaze.
Clear of face, his cry gives him light,
إِذاif جارَيتَهُyou race him قَصَّرتَyou fall short عَنهُof him
وَلاand not سِيَّماthe like of that إِذاwhen طالَتgrow long خُطاهُhis strides
If you race him, you fall short of him,
When you race with him, you fall short of him,
Especially when his strides grow long.
Especially when his strides are long,
وَكَمand how many مِنof سابِقٍa front-runner قَدalready بَلَّsoaked لِبداًa felt saddlecloth
فَلَمyet did not يَلَقencounter غُباراًdust مَنthe one who عَلاهُrode him
And how many a front-runner has soaked a felt saddlecloth,
And how many racers though strong,
Yet the one who rode him encountered no dust.
Meet no dust from one swifter than they,
فَحَلَّso became open لَهُfor him الطَريقُthe road فَلَستُso I am not مِمَّنamong those who
تَبَلَّغَهُcarry him حَوافِرَهُhis hooves مَداهُhis farthest reach
So the road opened for him; I am not among those
So the course is open before them yet I am not one,
Whose hooves carry them as far as he can go.
Whose horse's hooves outstretch to the goal.
