فيin الحَشرِthe gathering عِلقٌa catamite يَدُهُhis hand مِنجَلٌa sickle
في الحَشرِ عِلقٌ يَدُهُ مِنجَلٌ
يَحصُدُhe reaps ماwhatever يَنبُتُgrows فيon الخَدِّthe cheek
يَحصُدُ ما يَنبُتُ في الخَدِّ
In the gathering is a catamite whose hand is a sickle;
In the bustle, a scythe in his hand,
he reaps whatever grows upon the cheek.
He reaps all that grows on the cheek.
إِنif واجَرَhe hires الأَمرَدَthe beardless youth أَوor مُلتَحيa bearded man
إِن واجَرَ الأَمرَدَ أَو مُلتَحي
واجَرَhe hires مِنfrom مَهدٍa cradle إِلىto لَحدِa grave
واجَرَ مِن مَهدٍ إِلى لَحدِ
If he hires a beardless youth or a bearded man,
Whether curly-haired youth or bearded elder,
he hires from cradle to grave.
He reaps from the cradle to the grave.
