وَغادَرَهاand left them بِالحِرصِthrough diligence وَهيَand they are شَوامِخُtowering
وَغادَرَها بِالحِرصِ وَهيَ شَوامِخُ
If a person erects the edifices of piety,
When a man builds fortresses of piety,
and through diligence leaves them towering,
Yet abandons them through avarice while their minarets soar,
فَذاكَthen that one الَّذيwho يَأويtakes refuge إِلىin حِسَناتِهِhis good deeds
فَذاكَ الَّذي يَأوي إِلى حِسَناتِهِ
فَتَعصِمُهُthen they shield him مِنهاof them جِبالٌmountains رَواسِخُfirmly rooted
فَتَعصِمُهُ مِنها جِبالٌ رَواسِخُ
then he is the one who takes refuge in his good deeds,
He who finds refuge in his virtues,
and firmly rooted mountains of them shield him.
Impregnable mountains will guard him.
وَمِنand whoever صَحِبَkept company with التَقوىpiety فَلَيسَthen he is not بِنادِمٍregretful
وَمِن صَحِبَ التَقوى فَلَيسَ بِنادِمٍ

إِذا صَرَخَت يَوماً عَلَيهِ الصَوارِخُ
And whoever keeps company with piety will not regret it
He who befriends piety will never regret it,
when one day the shriekers cry out against him.
When clarions call out to him one day.
