قَدindeed قُلتُI said لمّاwhen جَفانيhe shunned me
وَزادَand he increased فيin هِجرانيabandoning me
I said, when he shunned me
When he was harsh to me
and deepened his estrangement from me:
And increased his estrangement
ياO لائِميyou who reproach me فيهِconcerning him مَنwho ليfor me
بِنُصرَةِwith the aid of السُلوانِsolace
O you who reproach me for him, who will bring me
O you who blame me for him
the aid of solace?
With the help of companionship
لَوif كُنتُI were أَملِكُI control أَمريmy affairs
لَمnot أَرضَI accept ليfor myself بِالهَوانِwith humiliation
If I were in control of my own affairs,
If I had control over my affair
I would not accept humiliation for myself.
I would not have accepted humiliation for myself
ماnot آفَتيmy affliction غَيرُother than قَلبٍa heart
أَطَعتُهُI obeyed it وَعَصانيand it disobeyed me
My only affliction is a heart
My downfall was nothing but a heart
that I obeyed, yet it disobeyed me.
That I obeyed, though it disobeyed me
