    I have become, of all God’s creatures, the most

    Enamored of a garden whose sides have turned green.

    وَالوَردُ وَجنَتُهُ الآسُ شارِبُهُ

    Its fragrance is its breath, and the rain its smile;

    The roses are its cheek, the myrtle its mustache.

    Then why should I not seek its favor with clear wine,

    Of a kind that mirrors the garden as the garden mirrors it?

    And I have found the path to an excuse clear:

    The stars of my night have not risen.
