وَمُستَطيلٍand an overbearing fellow مِنfrom بَنيthe sons of الكُتّابِthe scribes
وَمُستَطيلٍ مِن بَني الكُتّابِ
قَدindeed ضَلَّhas strayed عَنfrom مَسالِكِthe paths of الآدابِgood manners
قَد ضَلَّ عَن مَسالِكِ الآدابِ
And an overbearing fellow from among the scribes
A pretentious writer whose ways are corrupt,
Has strayed from the paths of good manners;
Though proud of his work, to good manners abrupt;
وَهوَand he عَلىdespite ماwhat فيهِis in him مِنof إِعجابِself-admiration
وَهوَ عَلى ما فيهِ مِن إِعجابِ
أَشَدُّmore intense تَطفيلاًin freeloading مِنَthan الذُبابِflies
أَشَدُّ تَطفيلاً مِنَ الذُبابِ
And he, for all his self-admiration,
More bothersome he than a fly in one's soup,
Is more of a freeloader than flies.
This pest of a man with his self-granted troupe.
