قَدindeed كُنتُI was عَذبَsweet الحَياةِlife حَتّىuntil
قَد كُنتُ عَذبَ الحَياةِ حَتّى
ناصَبَنيopposed me دَهرِيَmy time العَداوَهenmity
ناصَبَني دَهرِيَ العَداوَه
I had lived a sweet life until
I used to have a sweet life until
My time declared enmity against me.
My days turned to enmity against me.
فَصِرتُso I became إِنif ذُقتَyou tasted طَعمَthe flavor of عَيشٍlife
فَصِرتُ إِن ذُقتَ طَعمَ عَيشٍ
وَجَدتُهُI found it ناقِصَlacking in الحَلاوَهsweetness
وَجَدتُهُ ناقِصَ الحَلاوَه
So I became such that, if you tasted the flavor of life,
So if I now taste any life’s pleasure,
I found it lacking in sweetness.
I find it less sweet than it used to be.
